Dr. Suneetha Y. K. is a professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, with a tenure of more than 28 years at the institute. She has mentored over 1750 individuals who are now contributing to the nation in science, technology, and services. She has administered the chemical engineering. Department twice as Head of the Department. She oversaw the establishment of well-equipped laboratories for the undergraduate course, with the support of the B.M.S. Management.
Industry Collaboration and Projects: As the Principal Investigator, with the first-ever partnership with a research organisation, CMTI has developed a material, the first of its kind in India. The tool media for nanosurface finishing of metals has been created with an external (CMTI) project fund of 10.8 lakhs. Another project, "Development of a process for hydrodearomatization and desulfurization of diesel", was funded by the TAPTEC-AICTE with funds of 17 lakhs.
Dr. Y K Suneetha has work experience as a lecturer from MIT-Manipal (1993) and NITK, Surathkal, from 1993 to 1996. A funded project from TAPTEC-AICTE was successfully utilized for the “Development of a process for hydrodearomatization and desulfurization of diesel” during 2003-2006. Subsequently, five UG projects have been successfully carried out using this facility. Currently, the individual is the co-guide for a research scholar of Ph. D. registered under NIT, Warangal, and also the guide for three UG projects. She has guided 56+ projects under the UG program and six projects under the PG program. She is into developing technology to address environmental and societal issues, such as the development of bioplastics for solid waste management, utilizing natural resources. The individual has thirteen publications in international journals and has attended 14 international conferences where papers and research work have been presented. Three research articles are submitted for journal publication and are under peer review. Additionally, seven research articles have been presented at national conferences.


Empowering solution in advanced material manufacturing: The technology has culminated in a comprehensive superfinishing solution of metal parts (Ra < 100 nm) with innovative advanced tool material mixed with abrasives.
Transfer of Technology: The collaborative effort resulted in the successful transfer of technology to a company.
Entrepreneur: She is the founding director of "Stoicheiodis Scientia Private Limited", a startup company with the promo of "Where Ideas React" in the sector of materials engineering. The startup is into R&D and developed solutions to address the biomedical applications.
Stoicheiodis Scientia is the first cohort winner as the most inspiring women-led startup at the WEscalate, 2024-25, BBC, Govt. of Karnataka. The company is an incubatee at BIG Foundation and also the first cohort winner of CWE, Catalyst for Women Entrepreneurs.
The startup is researching putty for therapy and phantom sol for imaging applications in biomedical sectors at present. The startup is a winner of the ELEVATE 2025, a programme by the IT BT Dept., Karnataka Startup Cell. and also won the TITAN Nest Design Impact Movement, a national-level competition held at IIM, Calcutta. The startup has reached the 3rd level of the Startup MahaRathi Challenge under Startup India 2025 and has showcased its innovations under a free pod, a complementary stall at the Mahakumbh 2025 in Delhi.
