Research Interests: Dr. Suneetha Y K is a Professor in the Chemical Engineering Department, with tenure of more than 27 years at the institute. She has mentored over 1640 individuals who are now contributing to the Nation in science, technology, and services. She has administered the Chemical Engineering. Department twice as Head of the Department. She oversaw the establishment of well-equipped laboratories for the undergraduate course, with the support of the B.M.S. Management.
Industry Collaboration: As the Principal Investigator, with the first-ever partnership with a Research Organization, the Central Manufacturing Technology Institute has developed a material, the first of its kind in India. The tool media for nanosurface finishing of metals and ceramics has been developed.
Technology Development: I. "Process development for synthesis and biodegradation of polydimethylsilane media for micro abrasive Flow Finishing Machine (AFFM)" with an external (CMTI) project fund of 10.8 lakhs.
II. "Development of a process for hydrodearomatization and desulfurization of diesel” under TAPTEC-AICTE project with funds of 17 lakhs.

Empowering solution in advanced material manufacturing: The technology has culminated in a comprehensive superfinishing solution of metal parts (Ra<100 nanometers) with innovative advanced tool material mixed with abrasives.
Transfer of Technology: The collaborative effort resulted in the successful Transfer of Technology to "Stoicheiodis Scientia Private Limited", Bengaluru.
Entrepreneur: She is the founder of "Stoicheiodis Scientia Private Limited", , a startup company with the promo of "Where Ideas React".
The company is incubated at CWE, Catalyst for Women Entrepreneurs.
Stoicheiodis Scientia is a winner at the WEscalate, 2024-25, Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre, Govt of Karnataka, as the First Cohort, the most inspiring Women-led startup.
The startup is researching putty for therapy at present.
The startup has presented in Pitch 4 of the ELEVATE 2024 program by Karnataka Startup Cell.
The startup has reached the 3rd level of Startup MahaRathi Challenge under Startup India 2025.
The startup has showcased the innovation under a free pod, a complementary stall at Mahakumbh 2025 in Delhi.

She has taught various subjects within the Chemical Engineering(UG), Biochemical Engineering(PG), and Biotechnology (UG) Programme. The courses include Thermodynamics, Process Principles and calculations, Polymer Science, Processing, and Technology, Biochemical Engineering, Bioreaction Kinetics, Chemical Technology, Unit Operations, Process Equipment Design, Transport Phenomena, Mass Transfer Operation, Petroleum Engineering, and Petroleum Refineries.

Other Information

Dr. Y K Suneetha has work experience as a lecturer from MIT -Manipal (1993) and NITK, Surathkal, from 1993 to 1996. A funded project from TAPTEC-AICTE was successfully utilized for the “Development of a process for hydrodearomatization and desulfurization of diesel” during 2003-2006. Subsequently, five UG projects have been successfully carried out using this facility. Currently, the individual is the Co-guide for a research scholar of Ph. D. registered under NIT, Warangal, and also the guide for three UG projects. Overall, she has guided 56+ projects under the UG program and six projects under the PG program. She is into developing technology to address environmental and societal issues, such as the development of bioplastics for solid waste management utilizing natural resources. The individual has eleven publications in international journals and has attended 14 international conferences where papers and research work have been presented. Three research articles are submitted for journal publication and are under peer review. Additionally, seven research articles have been presented at national conferences.
