Dr. Savithri Bhat
Dean Innovation President, IIC
Dr. Savithri Bhat is a Professor in the Department of Biotechnology at B.M.S. College of Engineering (BMSCE), Bangalore. She leads the Centre for Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship (CIIE) and serves as the President of the Institution Innovation Cell (IIC). Previously, she headed the Department of Biotechnology at BMSCE (2016-2019).
She holds a Ph.D. in Biotechnology (1995-2000) from CSIR laboratories (NBRI & CIMAP) and pursued advanced research as an Invited Scientist in Molecular Neuroscience at NICHD, NIH, Bethesda, USA (2009-2010).
Dr. Bhat has secured substantial research funding from DBT, VGST, ICSSR, and VTU, along with industry collaborations for consultancy with organizations such as Miracle Drink Pvt. Ltd., Aruna Green Ventures, and ISRO to name a few. Her research collaborations extend both nationally (C-CAMP, NCBS, ISRO, IISc, NIMHANS) and internationally (Pacific Agri-Food Research Center, Canada; University of Nebraska Medical Center, USA).
She was a Regional Round Qualifier and Finalist for the National Bio Entrepreneurship Competition (NBEC) 2022 for start-ups, organized by BIRAC Regional Entrepreneurship Centre (BREC). In addition to her research, she has obtained funding from GIAN (MHRD) to integrate global academic expertise into Indian education and secured grants from ICMR and Science Academies (INSA) for organizing conferences and workshops.
Her expertise lies in molecular aspects of protein misfolding and mammalian cell responses to chemicals and medicinal compounds. Dr. Bhat's leadership and research continue to drive innovations at the intersection of science and engineering.
