About Department

The Department has a long tradition of excellence in educating, mentoring, and inspiring future technology leaders and researchers in the area of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
The department offers undergraduate and post graduate programs and a recognized Research center under the Quality Improvement Program (QIP) of the Government of India where the students are involved in Industry collaborative Research, Consultancy and State-of the -Art Labs which contributes to the social betterment.
To achieve this, our curriculum provides a strong foundation in both the analytic and technological aspects of E&C Engineering and explore internship opportunities in industry and world-class universities.
The department caters to Outcome based Education which help our students to learn, develop, and lead lives of impact.
Faculty who are very passionate about teaching are also involved in a number of research projects independently and in collaboration with industry and other renowned Research organisations.
Students are provided with ample opportunities to work on projects, skill development apart from regular curriculum, encourage taking part in national / international design contest / tests / quiz, in order to make them competitive and industry ready.
The major goal of the Department is to cater the holistic development of a student with a conducive Learning Environment.

Department Profile

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) was established in 1971.
> Offers Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Research programs in Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE)
> Granted academic autonomy status by VTU in 2008, allowing for customized curriculum development.
> Initial intake of 60 students to the Under Graduate (UG) program and enhanced to an intake of 120 students from 1983, 180 students from 2018, 276 students from 2022, 420 from 2024.
> The department offers three Postgraduate Programs “Electronics” from 1986, “Digital Communication Engineering” from 1996 with an intake of 18 students and 6 from 2024, “VLSI Design & Embedded Systems” from 2014 with an intake of 24 students.
> The department is also a recognized Research Centre (RC) by VTU from 2002 and is a recognized Quality Improvement Program (QIP) Centre by the AICTE from 2011.
> Till date, our research center has produced 40 Ph.D. recipients, with an additional 32 dedicated scholars currently engaged in pursuing Ph.D. program.
> Dedicated Teaching Faculty of 56 members, with 41faculties are holding Ph.D. qualification.
> Dedicated Technical staff of 15 members and non- teaching staff of 4 members.
> State-of-the-art infrastructure supported by various funding agencies and management, including World Bank-funded TEQIP, VGST.

> Department is accredited by NBA (Washington accord) for 3 years under TIER-1(cycle -2) from 2023-2026.
> Department was accredited by NBA (Washington accord) for 6 years under TIER-1(cycle-1) from 2017-2023.

The overall objective of the department is to contribute significantly, to the realization of the Vision of BMSCE.

The department has formalized this objective in terms of its own Program Vision and Mission which are in-line with the Vision and Mission of the college.

UG - B.E in Electronics and Communication Engineering ( 4 Years )

Programme Specific Objectives (PSOs)

PSO1	Analyse and Design Electronic Systems for Signal Processing and Communication Applications.
PSO2	Demonstrate The Conceptual Domain Knowledge With Respect To Architecture, Design, Analysis and Engineering Deployment In Data Communication and Computer Networking.
PSO3	Identify and Apply Domain Specific Tools For Design, Analysis, Synthesis and Validation Of VLSI And Communication Systems.

PG - M.Tech in Digital Communication Engineering ( 2 Years )

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEO1	Graduates shall be capable of building their career in related industries, R&D establishments as well as in Teaching with their scholarly knowledge with respect to advanced topics in Communication systems and Networking.
PEO2	Graduates shall be capable of conceptualizing and analyzing engineering problems of societal importance related to wireless networks, RF and microwave communications and signal processing,conduct independent research leading to technology solutions and communicate the outcomes through verbal and written mechanisms.
PEO3	Graduates shall be able to collaborate, manage and execute projects in teams using appropriate tools/technologies with utmost professionalism and acceptable good practices.

PG - M.Tech in Electronics ( 2 Years )

PEO1	Graduates shall be capable of building their career in related industries, R&D establishments as well as in teaching with their scholarly knowledge with respect to advanced topics in applied electronics and VLSI Engineering.
PEO2	Graduates shall be capable of conceptualizing and analyzing engineering problems of societal importance related to embedded systems, VLSI and signal processing, conduct independent Research leading to technology solutions and communicate the outcomes through verbal and written mechanisms.
PEO3	Graduates shall be able to collaborate, manage and execute projects in teams using appropriate tools/technologies with utmost professionalism and acceptable good practices.

PG - M.Tech in VLSI Design & Embedded Systems (2 Years)
