About
Dr. Umavathi. M is a dedicated academician and accomplished researcher, currently serving as an Associate Professor (Grant-In-Aid) cadre in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bull Temple Road, Bengaluru. With over 19 years of teaching experience, a year in the industry, and a decade in research, she has guided over 19 postgraduate projects and guiding two Ph.D., research scholars under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU).
My core areas of expertise include Renewable Energy, Hybrid Energy Systems, Smart Grids, and Power Electronics. She holds several patents, including a granted design patent on "Sun Tracking Solar Panel", and has published over 28 papers in peer-reviewed journals. A Senior Member of IEEE and Life Member of ISTE, Life member of AI-ML Innovative Entrepreneurs Engineers Association (AMIEE), she actively contributes to IEEE PES and IEEE SSIT, currently serving as the Secretary of IEEE SSIT Bangalore Section since January 2024.
Dr. Umavathi.M has played a key role in bridging academia and industry through impactful collaborations. In August 2023, she signed an MoU with InnovMon Technologies Pvt. Ltd. to promote innovation in electric vehicle technologies and on 4th August 2025 signed another MoU with NEXSTEM Company to promote Brain-Computer Interface solutions- EEG based Innovations. She successfully completed a SIX months consultancy project on "Hybrid Energy Systems for Electric Vehicle Propulsion", valued at ₹3,00,000 in collaboration with InnovMon Technologies.
In recognition of her contributions, she received the Inspiring Professor Award from MSME, Government of India, under my guidance final year B.E., students received IInd prize best project award in batch 2020-202 passed out batch and IIIrd Prize best project award in batch 2021-2022 passed out batch. A well-rounded personality, she has also earned multiple sports accolades at B.M.S. College and previously served as hostel in-charge and prefect at UVCE, Bangalore University.

3. National Level Inspiring Professor Award - Received the Inspiring Professor Award at the national level from MSME Chennai on September 5, 2022.
4. Best Paper Award - Received the Best Paper Award in May 2017 for outstanding research contributions.
