GRAND CHALLENGES IMPACT LAB, INDIA - A collaboration program with University of Washington and BMSCE

Grand Challenges Impact Lab (GCIL, India is a 15-credit study abroad program in Bangalore, India during winter quarter. The program is open to University of Washington graduate students and undergraduate junior and senior students from any department. Prof. S.Raghunath from the department of Civil Engineering delivered a lecture in GCIL, India in the year 2020. Thereafter, Prof. Julian had a brief interaction with Prof. SR when it was decided to involve the students from BMSCE into the program for a different learning experience. The next year program was conducted online with Prof. Samita Maitra and Prof. S.Raghunath as the co-ordinators with active participation from BMSCE students. In 2022, the students continued to work on the problems defined in GCIL as their major project. UoW impressed by the interaction and participation from BMSCE; the next GCIL, India offline program was initiated by both the Professors from BMSCE in communication with Prof. Julianne from University of Washington. After consecutive meetings online between the two institutes it was decided that the students from UoW would come over to B.M.S. College of Engineering, Bangalore for the program in 2023. The professors from BMSCE put forward the discussion with the Management of the institute. The management thereafter put in place the decision and instantly agreed to host the students who were going to participate from UoW for a period of 12 weeks from January 2023 to March 2023.
