The lab facilitates experiments such as moisture content determination, Atterberg limits, compaction, permeability, shear strength, and consolidation tests. Through hands-on training, students gain practical knowledge of soil classification, strength, and stability, which are essential for foundation design and ground improvement. | Research Facility: | Highway Material Testing Laboratory |
| Description: | The Highway Material Testing Laboratory provides students with practical exposure to the design, construction, and maintenance aspects of transportation infrastructure. The lab is equipped with modern instruments for testing road materials such as aggregates, bitumen to determine their suitability for pavement construction. Experiments include tests on aggregate impact and abrasion value, bitumen penetration and ductility, California Bearing Ratio (CBR) etc for subgrade evaluation. The lab has additional facilities such as fatigue testing machine, Marshall Stability apparatus, auto compactor, etc. Through hands-on training, students gain skills in material characterization, pavement quality control, and performance assessment, complementing their theoretical knowledge. The laboratory also supports research and consultancy activities in pavement design and material evaluation, contributing to the development of sustainable and durable road networks. | Description: | The Concrete Laboratory facilities to study the properties and behavior of concrete and its constituent materials. The lab is equipped with modern apparatus for testing cement, fine and coarse aggregates, fresh and hardened concrete. Major experiments include workability tests (slump, compaction factor, flow table), compressive and flexural strength tests, and mix design procedures. The laboratory enables students to understand material quality control, concrete mix proportioning, and performance evaluation, bridging theory with practice. It also supports research, consultancy, and innovative studies on sustainable construction materials, contributing to the advancement of civil engineering practices.
