About
I have selected teaching as a profession by choice. I believe that the craft of teaching requires a combination of passion, knowledge, patience, confidence and humor. I trust that education is at its best when it creates sustained learning and intellectual growth. I particularly emphasize learning to think about trends and directions, rather than memorization of facts. When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be exposed to the many engineering courses, all of which tended to strengthen my interest in engineering. During this time I have developed a special interest in the field of biomedical engineering and I pursued my masters in the same area. As an engineering teacher, to give dynamic engineers is my responsibility, to know who my learners are, what kind of knowledge they have and what they want to achieve, so that I can tailor a curriculum that fits their needs. Teaching is not static. Each class is different, as is each individual student. I bring a lot of energy to my class. If I can't get excited about my subject, why should my students? I believe that teachers who demonstrate curiosity and passion about a subject area motivate students to learn. I believe that it is my responsibility as a teacher to provide students with the following:• an environment encouraging to learning,
• knowledge that will help them be successful in achieving their lives' goals,
• materials, opportunities, and feedback that will help them learn, and
• help in becoming and remaining motivated to be successful both in their studies and in applying their knowledge to solve problems in their lives. Self-evaluation has been a part of my teaching process. A key way I determine if something works or not is through reflections on teaching. These reflections are important to my development as an excellent teacher. I use these reflections not only to examine how something went over in class in general, but also how I can improve an exercise, handling students’ comments, or discussion questions. Learning to step back and reflect on teaching helps me better understand the practices that lead to successful teaching. It also allows me to rethink a lesson I was unhappy with and apply that knowledge to future classes.
