New Course titled “Global Perspectives: Changemakers Under Covid-19” in Collaboration with the University of Arkansas, USA (UARK) to Focus on Problems Caused by Pandemic - 2020

Dr. Abhishek Appaji, Faculty of Department of Medical Electronics Engineering and Institutional Coordinator for R&D (ICRD), BMSCE in collaboration with Prof. Raj Rao in the College of Engineering and Rogelio Garcia Contreras in the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas will co-teach a new course this semester from Aug to Dec to 35+ students from BMSCE and UARK which focuses on problems faced by the community due to COVID19 Pandemic. After the successful completion of a 6 months study abroad program of a student (Alexis Applequist) from UARK, this course was planned as a six-week student exchange course. Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic, it is a virtual course now. In brief, the students from the Medical Electronics Engineering will collaborate with students from UARK virtually by forming teams to address problems faced by both the countries. At the end of the semester, there will be huge learning about the innovation cycle during these pandemic times. The course will be delivered by professors from UARK and BMSCE apart from the field experts from both the countries. This is a unique opportunity for BMSCE ML students. The experience would be beyond the syllabus and will help for your future job as well as higher studies including cultural exchange. If all is well, the group will end up having an entrepreneurial venture. The purpose of the course is to: - Connect entrepreneurial students from different parts of the world and help them understand each other's challenges, resources and socio-economic circumstances. - Encourage students to work together to design viable and sustainable solutions to some of the challenges as they manifest in local circumstances. - Engage students in an open-source, global dialogue of changemakers and innovators. - Expand the social capital of students at home by inviting them to collaborate in the design and potential implementation of local solutions. - Foster cross-cultural empathy and solidarity. - Promote international and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure that common problems are solved with common solutions. The virtual course will be beyond the syllabus and will be meeting from 18:30 to 1945 IST every Tuesdays and Thursdays during the fall 2020 semester. 18 students from ML, BMSCE were selected after vigorus process of application for this course.
