About
As a researcher, I have developed molecular models of unusual liquid crystal phases exhibited by highly polar compounds and explained strong photo-induced effects on liquid crystals. Also, I have developed theoretical models for various phases exhibited by anti-ferroelectric liquid crystals and those made of bent-core molecules and it predicted the possibility of new phases between smectic C and nematic, nematic and isotropic phases. It initiated multi-line addressing schemes for multiplexed liquid crystal displays at Liquid Crystal Laboratory, Raman Research Institute, Bangalore. This laboratory is currently used for synthesis, characterization and simulation studies of various Liquid Crystal/Display materials. The paper entitled “A Molecular Theory for Effect of Light on Liquid Crystals” by Suresha, B.L, Govind, A.S and Radhakrishna, M.C., Liq. Cryst., 39,347-357, 2012, is extensively referred in the study of phase transition of liquid crystals. The paper entitled “Theoretical study of the effect of light on nematic to isotropic phase transition” by Suresha, B.L., Radhakrishna, M.C and Govind, A. S, Acta. Phy. Polonica A., 120, 462,2011 was listed in “Vertical News-A Top News Source On line on Recent Scientific Discoveries“ during 2011-2012.Presently, I am also working on the synthesis and characterization of nano porous materials for energy storage devices like Li-ion batteries, super capacitors etc.
